Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)
AAC (augmentative & alternative communication) for kids in Henderson & Las Vegas
Every child deserves a voice. AAC gives children reliable ways to communicate — through pictures, devices, and apps — alongside any speech they have.
At GO Therapy Las Vegas, licensed speech-language pathologists help children and families use AAC, in our Henderson clinic or by teletherapy anywhere in Nevada.
What we work on
AAC is communication support for children who can’t rely on speech alone. It can include:
Picture boards
Communication books
Speech-generating devices
iPad-based AAC apps
Core vocabulary
Teaching the whole team
Coaching the child, family, and team to use the system naturally.
Signs parents notice
AAC can help children in many different situations. Families often ask about it when:
- Your child has few spoken words, or is hard to understand most of the time.
- Your child gets frustrated when they can't get a message across.
- Your child mostly communicates by leading you, pointing, or gesturing.
- Your child's speech is inconsistent — words come and go.
- Your child already has a device or app, but it isn't getting much use yet.
Noticing one of these doesn't mean something is wrong — every child develops at their own pace. It's simply a good reason to ask, and an evaluation is the clearest way to know.
What therapy looks like at GO Therapy
Starting is simple. Here's how it goes.
- 1
Reach out
Tell us a little about your child. Call us, or start a quick intake online.
- 2
We listen & evaluate
About an hour with you and your child — a standardized assessment, observation through play, a look at medical history, and your own input as the caregiver. From there we'll tell you whether therapy makes sense and, if it does, build an individualized plan. Therapy always starts with an evaluation.
- 3
We get to work
Play-based sessions begin — and we guide your family every step of the way.
AAC sessions are about real communication in play — asking for a favorite toy, making choices, commenting, and joining in. Your therapist models the system, coaches your family to use it naturally, and adjusts the vocabulary as your child grows.
Sessions happen in our Henderson clinic at 1481 W Warm Springs Rd, Suite 138, Henderson, NV 89014 (open Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm), or by secure video anywhere in Nevada.

Questions about AAC
- Will AAC stop my child from talking?
- It's one of the most common worries parents have. AAC is used alongside any speech your child has, not instead of it — it gives your child another reliable way to get their message across. Your therapist will talk through any concerns with you.
- Do we need to buy a device first?
- No. AAC ranges from picture boards and communication books to iPad-based apps and speech-generating devices. Your therapist can help you think through what fits your child, and our free Core Board is a simple place to start.
- What happens at the first visit?
- About an hour with you and your child — a standardized assessment, observation through play, a look at medical history, and your own input as the caregiver. From there we'll tell you whether therapy makes sense and, if it does, build an individualized plan. Therapy always starts with an evaluation.
- Can we do teletherapy instead of coming in?
- Yes. Your child can meet a licensed GO Therapy speech-language pathologist by secure video from anywhere in Nevada. We don't do home, daycare, or school visits — teletherapy is our flexible alternative.
